Savory Marinated Tofu Steaks

This is a easy and flavorful meal that is great to prep ahead if you have a busy week looming before you. It lasts for 3-4 days in the fridge and heats up easily in a pan or a microwave. Its also tasty if reheated in the toaster oven.

Yields1 Serving

1 Block of Extra Firm Tofu, pressed and drained
Marinade/Sauce
 1.50 tbsp Liquid Aminos
 1.50 tbsp Brags Coconut Aminos
 3 tbsp Mirin
 1 tbsp Maple Syrup
 2 tsp Toasted Sesame Oil
 1 tsp Garlic powder
1 tsp Fresh grated ginger or 1/4 tsp dry ground ginger
 1 tsp Brown Sugar
Serve with
2 cups Cooked short grain rice
 1 tbsp Lite Mayo
 2 tsp Siracha
 2 tsp Water
1 Sheet nori, cut into 6 strips length wise
1 tbsp Furikake or toasted sesame seeds
 2 Green onions, diced

1

After draining and pressing your tofu, slice it into 6 equal sections.

2

Place all of the marinade ingredients in a bowl or Ziplock bag along with the tofu. Allow this to marinate 3 hours to overnight. I like to turn it every so often to make sure the marinade is evenly distributed.

3

Once you get your short grain rice cooked and set aside (keep it covered).
Add a tablespoon of oil to a frying pan and heat it over medium high for about a minute or two. You'll know its the right temperature when a drop of the tofu marinade sizzles when dropped into the pan. Using tongs lay the tofu slices into the pan (reserve the marinade aside) allow them to cook until lightly browned on one side, about 2 minutes, flip and cook for another 2 minutes.

4

While the tofu is sizzling away, mix up your spicy mayo. In a cup or small bowl add the mayo, water and siracha. Whisk with a fork until its completely mixed. Feel free to add more siracha if you want is spicer or more mayo if you want it less spicy.

5

Once the tofu steaks are browned on both sides flip them once more, lowering the heat to medium, and pour the tofu marinade in the pan and over the tofu. Cook the marinade, turning the tofu as you go, until the sauce thickens to desired consistency.

6

Once the sauce is cooked down plate everything up! Wrap each tofu in a strip of nori, place it on a bed of rice and spoon a little of the spicy mayo on top. Top that off with diced green onion, Furikake or toasted sesame seeds and enjoy!
